Our Community

Empowering communities through Zambia’s first palm oil plantation

Impact

Our Community Impact

The plantation is located 100 km northwest of Mpika, off Kasama Road, 16 km past Kopa Village in the Bangweulu plains. The local population is sparsely settled, with fishing as the main economic activity and some cassava farming near villages. The establishment of Zampalm Plantations has created social and economic impacts, providing approximately 900 jobs annually and fostering new commercial and trading activities.

Our Commitment to International Best Practice

Zampalm is committed to open and transparent engagement with stakeholders. Our plan ensures meaningful dialogue and a fair grievance process, while keeping our operations aligned with international best practices

In the pursuit for achieving international environmental and social standards, Zampalm has put in place an elaborate stakeholder engagement plan and a grievance resolution mechanism. The Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) provides a detailed analysis of stakeholders and a structured approach to public consultation and disclosure. The SEP is also intended to provide guidance during the Project stakeholder engagement process to allow the Company to conduct its operations to International Best Practice (IBP). This includes:

    • Disclosure, informing communities on Zampalm activities and likely associated impacts specifically to the traditional leaders, Neighbouring Villages and Community liaison structures.

    • Community sensitization to ensure that local communities are suitably informed of Zampalm activities.

    • Recognising grievances and concerns raised by stakeholders and ensuring two-way communication by providing timely responses.

    • Incorporating local expertise and experience into achieving harmonious and beneficial relationships between all parties.

    • Creating an environment which allows for coordinated solutions to issues and concerns through collaborative efforts with local communities and stakeholders.
